I graduated in Computing which is much more related to Information System. After school, I worked in software house which is provided the variety dimension of solution in business application systems such as Finance, Human Resources or kinds of logistics. Those systems are used to ease the workload and improve efficiency according to the business needs.

In several years, I have a lot of chances to implement, upgrade or maintain variety kind of systems as well as providing the user training as a trainer. Even now, I have worked educational institution and my duty is related to application systems also.

The reasons why I choose this master courses is that IT technology is not bound to use in the business world nowadays. I would like to explore more how IT technologies apply on education, how to make the educational method to be more interesting both for students and teachers or trainees and trainers, not focus on business application systems only.

I am impressed the teaching materials like moodle systems. Use of IT technology on education sounds an interesting and fresh topic for me.

Cha's Profile:

I come from Hong Kong, I work in the information technology services unit of the HKU SPACE. I was responsible to pass the latest and update technology information to the end user - For example: student, staff and program team. The past, I need to arrange more than one in training for each course and prepare paper of user material to the learner. In this case, student may miss the course and lost opportunity to learn. Until to the e-learning development of the school, we have been working on the revamp of the e-learning platform and provide different channel for dissemination technology information. As long as there are computer facilities, learner cannot limit to the time and place, use of multimedia tools to self-learning. I am a multimedia and computing information system graduated student, I choose to study MITE because I would like to learn more E-Learning technology or method for the teaching. Combination of my knowledge with the multimedia and E-Learning, there is the form of image, animation, audio and video to attract the attention of learner and increase their interest. Referred to above, I am fascinated to study this module and program for my future.

As my entire family was lived in Hong Kong and along with many other reasons, I decided to return to Hong Kong in late 2007. I am presently working at the HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education as an IT Officer and have an eager to enhance my education level to pursue my next academic goal.

My target teaching audience is all adults with various educational backgrounds and work experiences, hopefully I could utilities my IT expertise to integrate and develop the most appropriate teaching and learning framework using different technology tools and learning platforms with an additive of IT-based innovative practices for them to stimulate their learning of new applications/systems and improve the learning experience.

Josephine's Profile:

This is Josephine. I was born in Hong Kong and have been staying in Hong Kong for most of my life except the six years I spent in Australia for my tertiary education. Currently,  I am an IT officer in an educational institute. My main responsibilities include implementing and maintaining the School management systems as well as providing user supports. As part of my job duty, I need to conduct trainings to my end-users on my responsible systems regularly. A consistent problem I encountered is users usually forget almost all the topics we have taught and discussed right after the training sessions. Consequently, painstaking supports are undoubtedly followed. Through this program, I aim at gaining in-depth knowledge on applying information technology in education. This does not only mean learning cutting-edge, state-of-the-art computer-based education tools and environments, but also to utilize them in appropriate ways towards different learning goals. I believe this will facilitate me in providing more interactive and effective trainings to my end-users which will naturally lead to more comprehensive and yet long-lasting understanding of the system from the users. Hopefully, this will result in less complaints and supports to the system. Productivity, in turn, should be raised. Another thing I would like to achieve is to nurture my awareness on upcoming technology, not limiting to educational aspects. This would keep me in pace with my kids as well as provide me new perspectives in educating my kids.

Margaret's Profile:

I was born in Hong Kong and lived in Canada for 16 years. I am currently working as the Assistant Project Director in Chatteris Educational Foundation. My main duties this year are to support the design and delivery of the English Development Programme for schools, to support the development of lessons, workshops, activities and resource materials (with the focus on the educational technology area) for use by the Chatteris Native-English speaking tutors, the organization’s programme school teachers and the students, and to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of teaching and learning for all the programme schools and within our project management team.

Some projects that I will be in charge of are to provide tutorials to the tutors and project managers in using technology tools such as Web 2.0, Google apps, blogging and various multimedia resources and how these tools can support learning and teaching in classrooms. Hence I believe this module will provide me with the basic knowledge of information technology in education. For example, I would be interested in getting to know more about various technology tool applications and evaluate the implementation of current teachers’ uses of technology tools, students’ uses of technology tools, Web 2.0 and learning management platforms in educational institutions. Furthermore the learning of various theories on the use of technology in learning and teaching will help me to provide better support on the design and delivery of lessons. In addition, the practical use of applications in the module will provide me with more experience in using various technology tools that I may try to implement them in my work projects in order to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of teaching and learning.
